Preparing for TQS

  • Step 1: Ensure that your organisation is eligible for TQS.
All organisations seeking assessment should be registered with the UK Register of Learning Providers (UKRLP); further information is available at their website www.ukrlp.co.uk
All organisations must have been trading, and engaged in the provision and delivery of training and development solutions to employers, for at least 12 months at the point of registration.

There are no restrictions set in terms of the track record, or size and scope of business with employers. We would though advise those with a very limited scale and/or history of working with employers to think carefully before applying, as it is unlikely that they will have a sufficient evidence base to demonstrate performance against the Standard’s requirements.

  • Step 2: Take the "Readiness Check"
The readiness check is a tool that will help you and your organisation consider how ready you are for Training Quality Standard assessment. Whilst it is not a substitute for assessment, it has been designed to help potential applicants get an idea of any preparation that may be advisable and will help give you a sense of your ability to make an application for assessment. Consisting of only 10 steps, users are asked to score themselves against each of the indicators in sequence so that they can be provided with their own personalised report.

  • Step 3: Map your indicators
The Training Quality Standard will be part of an approach to continuous quality improvement, not a substitute, and should complement your other work, rather than forcing you to duplicate it. For that reason, we have taken five leading quality assessment frameworks in use by Training Quality Standard applicants and identified how their different elements or indicators map to the different indicators of the Standard.

The five frameworks compared and mapped to the Training Quality Standard are as follows:

    • The Customer First Standard
    • The Customer Service Excellence Standard
    • The EFQM Excellence Model
    • The Investors in People Standard
    • The matrix Standard

If you currently hold, or are familiar with any of the above, the Mapping Guide made available is designed to help use this prior learning as a starting point for preparing your applications for the Training Quality Standard.
